Gian de Caris attorney at lawGian M. de Caris has been a trial litigator in the State and Municipal Courts since 1990.   He has extensive trial experience in criminal and civil litigation.  Mr. de Caris began his legal career in the Cuyahoga County Public Defender’s Office where he was a trial attorney from 1990 until 1994.  In November 1994, Mr. de Caris became a civil litigator in the area of insurance defense for the Hartford Insurance Company while employed with the Law Offices of Steven K. Kelley.  In June 2001, Mr. de Caris opened his own office focusing his practice in the area of criminal defense.   In November 2008, Mr. de Caris joined Polito | Rodstrom | Burke LLP as Of Counsel and continues to concentrate on criminal defense litigation in the State and Municipal Courts. Mr. de Caris has represented numerous clients that have criminal matters on the Mental Health Court docket.

Mr. de Caris was born and raised in Warren, Ohio.  He is a 1981 graduate of Warren John F. Kennedy High School.    Mr. de Caris has been a resident of Cuyahoga County since 1988, when he first moved to Cleveland to attend Case Western Reserve University Law School.   “I came to Cleveland to attend Case Western Reserve University Law School;  during that time that I fell in love with the Cleveland area and all of the unique treasures it provides.  It was then that I decided to make Cleveland my home.”  Mr. de Caris lives in the City of Cleveland with his wife, Judge Kathleen Ann Keough and their two daughters.

Mr. de Caris received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and English from Bowling Green State University in 1985 and his Juris Doctorate degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1988.  After law school, Mr. de Caris studied the Italian language and general business studies, from August 1988 to August 1989, at the University for Foreigners in Perugia, Italy and the Dante Alighieri Center for Italian Languages in Rome, Italy.

Mr. de Caris is licensed in the State of Ohio.  He is also admitted to the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio. Mr. de Caris has been certified by the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court to handle criminal matters on the Mental Health Court Docket. Mr. de Caris is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Cuyahoga County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and a Life Member of the Eighth District Judicial Conference.   He is also Treasurer of the Justinian Forum (an Italian-American Lawyers Association); President of the Advisory Board at Our Lady of Mount Carmel West and a member of the Fathers Club at Magnificat High School.
